hey guys,
for those of you involved in leading music/worship in your churches, i thought i'd let you know about a recent project of mine. this link will lead you to my denomination's local site where you'll find 5 of my songs available for free.

the project has begun with my music but is intended to become a place that encouarges more musicians from my denomination to write and share music written for worship. our denomination has a long and wonderful musical history, but always with music that someone else has written. here's to hoping that we get our creative juices flowing for the sake of the Kingdom.

OLF'ers will be interested to know that my first guitar (englemann/rosewood om) was used to write 4 of the 5 tunes. the piano parts that have been graciously created (piano accompaniment still holds sway over guitars in our denomination) closely mimic the original guitar parts - i tend to write stuff while fingerpicking melodies. you'll hear that this stuff sounds much more like contemporary hymns than contemporary worship songs.

the one song on which that guitar can be heard is 'our dearest child.' each time i hear it i'm tickled by the excitement of knowing that i wrote the song and built the instrument. too bad i can't sing worth a hoot!

so anyway, hope you enjoy the music. you and your congregations are free to use it. backing up one step from the link to the "worship" page will give you our guidelines for use.

thanks for checking them out. though i'm kind of excited about my music, i'm really crossing my fingers and hoping that more musicians from my denomination start writing and sharing music for worship. there are so many talented musicians connected to our churches.
we who build can't build great instruments fast enough to get into the hands of those who need them!

Nice stuff by the way. Good on ya. It's very fun to have your own song(s) recorded. I have one song recorded as well, wish it were me singing and playing though.

about brian, raised a menno, but i believe a part of the vineyard church now. that's a church with a great tradition of nurturing artists and musicians. hoping we can start to copy a bit of that in our little menno corner of the world.

Like many things, there's a whole other side to the vineyard coin. But that's not to be discussed here.

My song was recorded on a vineyard album back in 2001 "All I Need" is the album. At that time it was 8 years since I wrote it, some very minor changes were made at the time of recording.

Anyway, feel free to download it, it's recorded at a moderate level (5Mbs large file). Also if you like I can get you a chord sheet, no sheet music on it. Like many worship songs, it's pretty easy.

Thnaks for sharing this guys, Phil, are you the Phil Enns that attended Providence in the Early 90's. I was in Seminary there at the time and there was a Phil Enns there. Really enjoyed your music. Rod, When I was a pastor in the E. Free church we used to use your song. Wild. Unfortunately in the church I am in Now our New Priest won't let us use overheads and wants all the music from the Hymbooks so I am now trying to learn all new stuff on the guitar. Otherwise we'd be doing Moutain of God this week. It would be perfect.

i'm not sure if i'm the guy you're thinking about. i had a few close friends at prov around that time and i played volleyball against prov, but never went there myself. even though i applied to the school in '86, i ended up at canadian mennonite bible college instead.
we can play the name game a bit further if you want to try and make a connection.

same goes for you james. i didn't want brother serge to feel left out by us playing the mennonite name game (any manitoba connection that i should know about serge?). but tell me where you went to school and when and we might find only a few degrees of separation.

and rod!!! great tune. amazing to hear what professional production does as well. the song is beautiful and so is the sound. thanks for sharing it and good on you for not just the recording but also for the blessing the music has been to richard and others.
