OK gang, I've been raiding the scraps box again!!

Salvaged walnut for the back, sides, Bridge linings & rosette

Salvaged mahogany for neck (1 piece + headstock wings) & bindings

I had to buy the cedar top & rosewood fingerboard......

Bone nut & saddle, spray water based varnish from my local DIY chain, tuners from Stewmac
strings on today and she's sounding good!!, Bassier than a normal zouk, but still treblier than a guitar.....

Under saddle piezo and truss rod cover still to do, but no hurry







All I gotta do now is learn to PLAY the blasted thing!!! :D

That's really nice, Martin. I plan to make one in my future.   Man I need to get out and start looking for scraps. I've never seen walnut and mahogany being thrown out, but I haven't really looked either.

I tentatively pulled out a 3" x 2"x 3" chunk of mahogany in a shopfitters skip once...
The rest was manky plyboard.

I think that Belfast shops and bars are all kitted out with nice Zoot. Us Englanders just get manky plywood in our stores...

The neck looks very narrow though - I'd have trouble getting my big fingers in there .

If you ever get to England near High Wycombe drop in and I'll teach you the basics. I have a basic chord chart in GDAD that James Fagan handed out at his workshop in .doc format thatI can e-mail you if you are interested.

Or get to a James Fagan workshop if he does one near you.

aw gang, yer all sayin nice things!!

well Tonight is our home group so I led the singing with this wee beastie.

Tuning is SLIGHTLY off which I'm blaming on the nut being 1mm too high. the strings are stretching too much depending on where they're fretted......

I've tuned it GDAE like my mando cos after 25 years of playing guitar in standard tunings, TWO new sets of chord shapes in a year? No thabnks!!!! though F is a bit of a stretch (4 frets way down at the nut end!!)

as to a sound sample, lemme get the nut sorted and learn to stretch my fingers a bit!!!
