I just took my 8 year old boy to his (and my) first ice hockey game. He seems to be really liking it asking me to find hockey on the tv all the time now. Dish network is doing a free preview though of their "Center Ice" subsription channel.

I've never been a sports guy but I really like this ice hockey. It's a pretty fast game and seems to keep a good intensity level throughout the game. I watched The Wild vs The Blackhawks last night and that was good game. BTW I think that last goal was legit.

Now I just need to learn all the rules...

So anyway, You a fan? If so who's your team?

I've been a fan all my life (even played a bit when I was more scrappy). Though I despise pro sports so I watch the college leagues and minors (ok, I guess you could call $200 a month "pro" but they are still trying to prove themselves, therefore they play with passion)
Check your area for college leagues. They aren't always the universtiy teams because many colleges can't afford hockey as a sport. In that case, the kids get on college league teams that are privately owned. Those kids play their hearts out because they are trying to "make it".

Ronn, your only about 2-1/2 hours from San Jose, you should be able to get the Sharks on TV all the time, Yes/No??

Seeing as how Canada invented the game, I guess you can say that I'm a fan. All levels of hockey I enjoy but like Paul, I like the junior or college level as they are certainly more aggressive (usually, but not always) than the pros, mind you the skill level is also certainly poorer than the pros.

As far as the rules go, if you have any questions please feel free to ask, I was a Hockey Referee for 12 years.

Have fun getting hooked on the fastest sport on the planet.

It is really hard to be a Caunucks fan. So high and so low. Go Canucks.

I love the sport! I became a huge fan of the Tampa Bay Lightning when the NHL came to Florida.I try to get to a few games each year. It's a blast to see it live!

Here's the deal... The preview of Dish Networks NHL channel is over . I have no sports channels at all... Kind of funny but if you sign up for the "family" package they don't include any sports... There is a college sports channel I'll give that a look. As to the Sharks I don't recall ever seeing them on TV here, but then again I don't watch much TV so who knows. I'm somewhat tempted to spring for the $120 and get the remainder of the season on the Dish channels.

I have been watching lots of game highlights on the various NHL team's web sites. Seems I find myself spending lots of time on the Red Wings' site...

Those stinkin' Geriatwings, come on they really need to get Chris Chellios to retire, I mean 45 years old and still playing hockey, when is this guy goning to hang it up. And don't even get me started on Dominic Hassik.....Sheesh.

this is all a ploy to get under Lance's skin a bit, I actually like the wings too, especially buffalo wings Rod True39097.9571990741

Wait a minute! I thought it was Al Gore who invented hockey????

I've been a Bruins fan since I was a kid, which was a long time ago. I think there were still Dodo birds around then. I also like the Sabres.

HATE the Redwings...

This too was also to get under Lance's skin...

Nice try Rod

My blood is still flowing Honolulu blue and silver, even though the Loins are done. I get a Big Red Transfusion after the Super bowl.

Sides, Since Stevie retired the Redwings are just another NHL team. Much in the same way the Packers will be just another NFL team after Bret retires. Some of what made them special is gone.

That is until Datsyuk or Zetterberg steals the hearts of Hockytown!

Hockey is a way of life up here. Last weekend I spent with my son at a tournament but the real highlight for us is watching the Jr. A hockey, Those Guys fly. Nipigon has a Jr. B team but those of you who know hockey know Jr. B is more about fighting than playing while Jr. A is fast hockey.
