Hi folks! After PM'ing and emailing all my OLF buds for advice on how to make a rosette ... here it is. Special thanks to Hesh and for the tutorial and Tony for some additional tips.

Cutting the channels....

Finished rosette

The guitar is for my youngest, so I thought I'd put her to work on it. I made up a file of as many of the rosettes I could find in the archives and she chose one of Steve Kinnaird's. Thanks Steve

What a fine looking rose you have there Anthony and the rosette looks great too

Hey Anthony, I'm flattered! And always pleased to see the next generation interested in guitars. You know, if we're all going to continue building, we're going to have to enlarge the customer base.
I like the idea of getting one's kids hooked.
That way you will at least justify the continued purchase of tonewood, right?

And fine looking rosette.

I didn't even realize child labor was allowed in Canada!

Great looking rosette, and what a lovely smile on your daughter's face; it really says it all.

In my experience, working with the kids in the shop can be stressful if they are there just to watch and you have to keep an eye on them while you really want to be doing something else. They get impatient, you get cranky, they break something or you mess up because you cannot concentrate, and everybody get upset. Making stuff together is different and can be very rewarding for both. My 4-year old and I just built a cookie tin mando over a couple of days, and now he takes the thing everywhere and proudly shows everybody "his creation".

I am sure your daughter will adore her instrument, but the experience of making it with you will be a treasure in her heart forever.

You guys are great and I really appreciate the kind comments. Waddy I hadn't intended to cause the Red comparison (Red you handsome devil you).

Like I mentioned this guitar is for my youngest Erin and in selecting the materials and appointments I've done my best to make it a builder - customer relationship. So Erin has been involved in every step -- she chose the top, requested Koa binding, hence the Koa rosette ring. The backs/sides will be quilted maple. I kinda imposed those on her as she wanted me to use one of my Brazilian Rosewood sets

I often show her pictures from the OLF so she is getting a pretty good appreciation for different tonewoods and appointments.

She really likes the Madonna guitar that Brock posted here a couple of years ago. Its the one that Craig Lavin did the inlay work on and she'd like her profile inlayed on the headstock as well. I just might have to outsource this part of the guitar.

I am really excited about working on this particular guitar/project. Firstly, it's my first flattop and second I've got a good customer to work with.

Wow Anthony great rosette.I really like the mix of shell and wood.And your helper looks pretty special.I know what it`s like to have little ones around.It just doesn`t get any better than that.Guitars and little ones.Keep up the good work.
