Steve and I collaborated on this OM. He did some and I did some and presto we had a guitar. Only took about a year but it was fun. It is amazing what sort of things you take for granted that have to be coordinated. Anyhow, somebody else owns it now and that's a good thing.


The back and sides and neck are walnut with maple trimmings.

I was thinking the back was curly Black Walnut but have heard from another source that it is Claro. Steve probably knows since it was his walnut.


The rosette is walnut burl. The fingerboard and bridge are Texas Ebony. The inlay was done by Craig Lavin

Walnut burl that we cut from a tree that grew in our Dad's back yard. SKJ initials for the work crew. Sorry Craig we could not fit an L in there.

Texas ebony is really one of the kinds of Mesquite that grow out there. This particular brand of mesquite is very hard, hence the common name.

I planned on the rose being the center of attention anyway.
I didn't think people were going to stare at the logo all THAT much.....

It's a beauty guys. I am proud to be a part of that- L or not!! You know I hold a special place for all things Kinnaird.

John- I have those two necks and a body coming back to you at some point. I have had to put others way in front of my own. I am heading into summer though, so I hope to get caught up. Hope you'll be ready!

Y'all did some fine collaboratin there.  That is a beautiful instrument.  The appointments are elegant. The Maple trim really shows it off.  Inlays are perfect looking.

Very, very nice!

Walnut looks similar to a set of curly black walnut I got from Steve a few years back...it's a good bit darker/richer than most of my other black walnut sets.

If there is anything better than a Kinnaird guitar (OK, there is, but for the sake of argument ), it's a guitar by both Kinnairds! OK it's had the gestation time of an elephant, but worth the wait. Walnut and Adi, should sound great. Don't forget the forum rule about no pics of guitars without a sound clip.

Now you've done the American guitar, how about and Australian, or European?

John and Steve, that is one truly lovely guitar. Great job. I'd love to do something like that with my brother but alas, he's a computer geek and couldn't tell a chisel from a band saw.
I like Colin's idea of country/region themed guitars. I think I'm going to take that ball and run with it. I'm thinking Iceland. Lots of great native tonewoods in Iceland I'm told.

Colin, I knew you would appreciate the fact that there was no burst. We are working on the no pearl thing, but we LIKE pearl and its a hard habit to break.

Paul that is a pretty cool idea. I really would like to do an Australian guitar. What kind of top wood do they have there? Anything that's hard enough for a fingerboard or bridge.
