Hi guys,
here one of my latest guitars.
Curly Koa back and sides with a Semi-double Curly Redwood Top. Amazing tap tone from the box.....

Those are some pretty woods Peter.  What, for the newbie, is a semi-double top?

Interesting choice of woods. Quite striking.

Dido on the semi-double top.

Peter,
That is some beautiful wood.....all the way around! I look forward to seeing
it progress into one of your typically gorgeous instruments.

I'm hoping to be able to play one of your double topped pieces in the
future. I've done the Nomex suspended top plates a few times and really
liked to results.

Please post some pics as this guitar comes together.

Thanks,
Kevin Gallagher/Omega Guitars

Another bold, beautiful statement Peter!
What are you planning to use for bindings?

Steve

Semi-double top construction is a simple method to strengthen figured soundboards that otherwise wouldn't be stable enough to use. All I do is trace the bracing pattern onto a spruce top that will be used as the backer for the top, then I remove wood from some of the areas surrounding the braces leaving only connecting areas to keep the integrity of the backer top. Then I glue both tops....VERY IMPORTANT....using a vacuum bag. If you don't have vacuum ability DO NOT do it as you won't be able to evenly distribute gluing pressure and may compromise the stability of the top.
