In an effort to bring the members of the OLF the best possible Luthiers Forum Experience, the OLF has just purchased a Brand Spanking new Dedicated Dell Server.

(geek info below)
Dell Poweredge 2650 Server Dual P4 Xeon 2GB RAID 5
2 Intel Pentium 4 (P4) Xeon processors with HyperThreading (HT)
2GB DDR SDRAM
RAID 5 array of 3 Seagate Ultra320 SCSI 36GB hard drives
Same storage and fault tolerance as 2x73GB RAID 1, but up to 50% higher throughput, and lower cost
PERC3-DI controller with 128MB battery-backed cache and 2-internal-channel embedded RAID
Dual on-board Gigabit NICS
34 months Dell warranty including next-business-day on-site support.

This should take care of any speed issues were having now, and allow us future expansion.

It will be implemented as soon as its put online and all the software has been installed.

Funding for this unit will be both out of pocket, and through the OLF Monthly Auctions. So PLEASE visit the Auction site every other week, for new stuff.

Thanks
LanceK

If ya think were not dedicated to bringing you members the best online guitar building forum on earth, THINK AGAIN!

This is great. Frank Ford hosts his own site on high speed service too. I like the fact that the Dell comes with a can of RAID to kill any bugs that pop up.

Great going OLF management on the purchase of new equipment and thinking of the future. We are expanding everyday. Hope this helps to eliminate people's concerns over speed and things. I look forward to the day it's installed. Have a great day.

Well, I am sure that Lance is too classy of a guy to say anything, but I can tell you from being involved in this project that the server purchase was a major investment.

If you have a few bucks in your pay pal account I am sure he would appreciate any help you cared to offer in shouldering this cost.

We all benefit tremendously from this board, and there is little/no revenue in it for him. So if you are able to help him, or donate anything to be auctioned off I am sure it will be humbly appreciated.

Lance,

Very nice of you to do this. It shows a lot of thoughtfulness on your part!

...which still puzzles me. How do you find time to do anything else? You seem to be pouring so much time and effort into this site, I can imagine you getting laid off from your "real" job. And forget building guitars. Perhaps as a show of appreciation, not only should the members finish off the OLF guitar for you, but start building those Kragenbrink guitars for you as well. I imagine your back-log is growing!

Anyway, thanks again for such a fine place.
And kudos to Brock as well!
