Nice tute, Hesh! Looks like a neat method although I'm a little squirmy about reducing the bonding surface area. Even though I have never used a rabbet I have eaten rabbit.

I do mine the standard way...tracing the perimeter of the bridge after finishing and then clearing the area prior to gluing up.

I'll be anxious to see your results...it's sure to be neat and tidy.

BTW...could you hurry and get this one to Tony soon. I'd like to drive up to see you and the guitar once it's finished and I now see snow on the horizon!

That's a rabbet, not a bunny!

A quick tip...

Spend 10 or 20 mins one say sanding a piece of MDF in your radius dish (it only has to be about 7 by 4 inches) so you end up with a convex 25" section. Cover this in a rougher sand paper and use it to "rough out" the radius on to the bottom of the bridge. It's much quicker as you can apply more force to the MDF board than the guitar's top. Finish off on the guitar's top as normal

Yeah, that's what I wanted to link to. Safari doesn't agree with the forum
software, and I can't post any html links that run longer than on line. Then
when you copy and paste the link, it inserts a space at the line break.

I know I should just switch to Firefox, but I like Safari in every way other
than compatibility with this forum. I've just been putting it off until we
switch to the new forum software, in hopes that the problem will just
disappear then.

Hesh, I really look forward to seeing the completed product, hopefully along
with a few others of the Heshtone collection.

If you're switching from Safari, forget firefox and move straight over to Camino...it's much better, and still free

bridge before finishing - does the thickness of the masking tape cause
problems with sanding to level the finish? Thanks!

Crazy:

No, it doesn't. I had that exact concern but it just isn't an issue. If you wet sand down to the edge of the tape, not only will it not be an issue, but the finish OVER the tape will be perfectly smooth too. I took a photo of that for you. And remember, we're only talking about a few thousands in the finish thickness anyway...so the "ramp" up to the tape will be miniscule at a level that is practically irrelevant. (IMO)
