Hello everyone,

I have a Kingman Guitar that says it was manufactured by the Kingman Guitar co., 19 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY. The luthier's name is Robert L. Kingman circa 1963. It is an oversized hollowbody archtop with a trapeze tailpiece very similar to a D'Angelico or D'Aquisto. Nobody seems to know anything about this guitar company or this luthier. I'm wondering if anyone here has ever heard of him or can maybe give me some info on the guitar.
Thanks for your time,
Denton

Hi Denton, thats a new one for me. I would ask Matt Umanov on Bleeker street in Manhattan. He has been
around longer than me by a long shot. Michael Gurian is also an old time NY'er.
Hope this helps,
best, Evan

Thanks Evan, Ill see if I can get a hold of these guys. I actually live in Virginia and I've worked at several big music stores in Tennessee, so I thought I had seen just about everything vintage out there. I even talked to George Gruhn in Nashville about this guitar, and even he had no knowledge of it. So I figured my best bet would be to find someone who's been around awhile in the NY area. I thought possibly it could have been one of the luthiers that worked for D'Angelico that made it because of its outstanding fit and finish, but I talked to them and they never heard of this guy either.

I've never heard of this one either. Maybe he
didn't make a lot of guitars and therefore not very well known.
Could you post a photo of the guitar ?
Let us know what you find out Denton.

Thanks for all your help,
I couldn't attach the pictures I have on this forum for some reason, but I did however send some pictures to Matt Umanov. And we concluded that this guitar is probably not from 1963, it is more likely a newer model possibly an Ibanez that someone has upgraded and put their own name on it.
Thanks,
Denton
