I was curious if any of you might know and share some more minute aspects of La Leona. Romanillos' book is a bit unclear. For example, does it have the 2 closing struts at the tail? Romanillos notes that the central strut is only 15mm past bridge, the others stop at the bridge. Sounds like the almost half of the lower bout is more or less unbraced.
Is the central harmonic connected to the top/tornavoz base, or is it fully suspended in the air?

Top thickness? beehive

Thanks! bliss

Hi Alex,

I have no details on the construction of La Leona.
But I happend to chance upon a Japanese maker's site, who is making copy of La Leona.
The site is in Japanese though.

http://www008.upp.so-net.ne.jp/Jun-Nakano/antonio_de_torres_pag2.htm

From the pictures, the bracing pattern looks like normal closed harmonic braced Torres fan bracing.
I think Jun Nakano also attended the Romanillos' Sigüenza course.

I've seen the pics a while ago. It doesn't seem to be an exact replica; for example, the Leona rosette and purflings are far less elaborate than Jun's work.

Here is a [headinwall] photo from Lieske's site.

Good luck! There are just enough details about La Leona to make it tantalizing, but not enough to satisfy. Lieske's website has the only detail photos that I've seen.
