I have been using Starbond medium as a filler on my guitars for about 10 years. Never had any problem at all. Wipe it on, leave the room for about 20 minutes and sand it back! Starbond is cheap -about $30 gets you a 16 0z bottle. The info on Starbond is below. Ask for Paul. He is very helpful.

I think Starbond is what Brock uses too,
He does a lot of those spalted topped electrics..

That's a good price for sure and I certainly can't beat that here. I pay $37.95 for a 8oz bottle here.

Edit: OK I just spoke with Paul and they ship to Canada all the time and have been for several years now. He says that their CA glues are non-toxic so there is no issue with shipping internationally.

Minimum order is $20. He said they have a distributor that they ship from for Eastern States and Eastern Canada orders.

I know where I'll be buying my CA glues from for now on. Thanks Sylvan.

Also Sylvan, have you tried any of the other thicker viscosity CA's for filling pores? Just wondering if the Med Thick might be a better bet.

Rod, I will tell you in a week as I just ordered some Med thick. My RC Airplane club only carries thin Med and thick. The thick is just a bit too viscous for my liking

I have tried all of the Starbond products and recommend them highly. However, I find that Paul's medium is perfect for pore filling. The others (thicker) work fine but they take longer to dry. I like putting it on, going to get a sandwich, and coming back and immediately being able to sand the guitar. And then I can paint, all in the same day!

This is great information here. A couple questions:

Do you apply the glue to raw wood without any sealers?
Is there any danger of color bleed around bindings, etc.?

I assume you'd want to seal the top with shellac if your going to have a chance of getting glue there.

All of my guitars are continually shellaced through the build process. I shellac all of the wood that will receive super glue filler many times before the filler is actually used. After filling, the guitar is shellaced once again. Then I am ready for lacquer. You just can't beat the sealing capabilities of shellac!

No, CA fumes are an irritant but they're not a toxin. Think 'salt in the eyes'...it's not technically poisonous, just damned unpleasant!

I get my CA in big bottles from Canadian Hobbycraft (hobbycraft.ca if I remember correctly). It's relabeled Bob Smith CA, which is what a few of the inlay guys I know are using, and it comes in a bunch of viscosities (though I only use super-thin, medium, and super-thick)

There is a big difference between toxic and irritating
Non-Toxic refers only to not being poisonous. Unfortunately CA puts off those fumes in the chemical process that makes it work.

You might check Lee Valley for CA glues (they're in Canada).

Lee Valley, Fastenal, or any automotive supply place will have good CA in bottles. Loctite is what you'll find most often at Fastenal and Acklands-Grainger and is good CA.

I've filled with CA years ago, and recently saw one that was 9-10 years old. No shrinkage, and still looked good! This, despite living in the north and having been frozen a few too many times(major crazing of the lacquer on the top). The CA used? Those little tubes from Home Hardware..... If I remember right, two little tubes would do an entire guitar.

I also use Loctite as a CA glue, but all the local hardware stores near me sell it in 4ml bottle only, for 5$ to 6$.

That's why I like the 16oz bottle for 32$. I'm only a bit worried about its shelf life...
