For Hesh and you other guys using bias tape...are you using the stuff that is just a single layer? I assume so, but the only stuff I could find on my original tape finding mission was the stuff that was folded to its center line like you do when you start to build a simple paper airplaine. You guys don't use this stuff, do you? I tried it, and noticed it was quite thick. I took it off and went with the stuff I traditionally use. Wally world didn't have any single ply stuff, and I may try another place like Hancock or JoAnnes. Do you guys use the single ply stuff???

Try Walmart. IIRC, the stuff I use is folded at both edges. I took a tip from Hesh: unfold the tape and iron flat before installing. I used fish glue on my last and it came out great. Install the linings right over the tape.

Here is Todd's tutorial - It looks like he is using tri-fold tape opened up. Judging by the crease in the dry area I would say he didn't even have to bother with ironing or flattening.

Thanks guys. I use Wright's bias tape and I get it, incognito...... at a fabric store - Jo Ann's Fabrics to be specific.

I do have to iron it and with the iron on a higher setting (linen) or the creases try to raise up from the wood. I think that what I use is the 1/2" single fold size and it does come in some cool colors that can match mahogany and rosewoods very well.

Unfolded and ironed flat it is very easy to glue the "kerfed linings" directly over it.

The only thing that I am less than pleased about with this product is that it is 55% polyester which in my mind says that it will hold less glue. I would like to find something all linen that has the sealed edges that Wright's has but I have yet to find this and David Collins is not giving up where he got his either.....

I like Todd's method with HHG and a deny-bugs-their-dinner coat of shelac better and will be trying that out in the future.

Just don't let your beer drinking, farting buddy's catch you in a fabric store or with the iron out........

Thanks, guys. I failed to consider ironing it out. I'll give that a shot. Maybe I won't burn it up. Irons are like dryers to me...they should have 2 settings....off and torch. Whaddda I know, I'm just a dude.
Oh, sorry about asking before doing a big seach in the archives. It just slipped my mind to do so, so thanks for the replies.

Spray with water before ironing. that gets the wrinkle out much better than the steam function on the iron. It also gets the tape nice and hot for the HHG...

I wet the tape and use my side bender to flatten it out. Even my wife can't seem to find the iron.

HHG sticks quite well to the cotton poly stuff: in my break tests the tape broke along with the side most of the time, but the glue line didn't fail. With Titebond the glue line wasn't as good, which is why the pieces tended to fail with somewhat less force. Forget nylon.

Anyway, HHG is easier to use. Paint a line of glue across the side. Lay a strip of tape on it. Paint some more glue over the tape so that it's wetted out. Dab up the excess glue with a paper towel. make sure the edges are down.
