My alma mater/current employer built a new library, and I was able to snag one of the old card catalogs for my shop. It's not a pretty one, but it's really really nice to have... If you can procure one of these, I highly recommend it!

Oh that IS nice. Though I hate the prospect of searching through every drawer to find th eone that I want! How do you plan in ID'ing the contents?

Looks like a great grab but keeping everything alpha-numerically orgainized would drive me crazy. ;)

Is this just a catalog of where all your stuff is? I could never get my wood in those drawers. Is your stuff stickered in there?

Every drawer comes completely out, so it's really easy to reorganize - just pull the drawers out and put them back in different places. The pull tab on each drawer has a space for a little card that you can write the contents on...they all had the previous bibliographic contents on them, but the reverse is blank, so that's what I've been using.

Each drawer is big enough for a loaf of 3x5 index cards, which turns out to be just about the size of a Bailey #5. I can store small bits of wood that I can't bear to throw away, but nothing of significant size obviously.
