Aside from a group buy, anyone know of the cheapest string sets? The best I've found on D'Addario Phosphor Bronzes is about $5/set....TIA

Try buying in bulk from Euphonon http://www.hotworship.com/euphonon/. These are very likely D'Adario strings but I can't be sure. They are good strings though. and they come in at slightly over $2 a set.

Hi

I purchase all my strings from http://www.stringthis.com

They are manufactured by Martin and come in bulk packaging.

I have used them for quite some time now and have never had ANY issues with breakage or sound. I use the electrics and acoustics.

Take a look!

Not saying they are the best, but take a look at http://www.webstrings.com. I have used their classical strings for years, and my son uses their electric strings and acoustic strings. I know a few people who use their mandolin strings. Can't beat the service, and if you ever have a problem with a string, or unusual breakage, they'll make it good. They will also work with the manufacturer to get problems with particular strings straightened out. If I order today, I'll have them by Friday, and if you order enough($50), shipping is free. Prices vary with quantity.

My view on this, you have a $2500-$3000 guitar, the question should be the best strings, not the cheapest. Find the string that sounds best on the guitar and buy those.

I just got my first order from Walter Lipton at Euphonon. I liked the option of having them shipped straight, uncoiled. I've long thought that coiling up strings must have negative effects, though I have no data to support this.

Good service, good products, good prices. Hmm... thought we're only supposed to get two out of three. [:Y:]

And I should've reiterated that specifically we're looking for D'Addario PB lites...I know Bob was shipping Taylors with them for a time, don't know if that's still true...I like bulk strings for initial and set up stages, but am still debating what I'll be putting on my guitars to ship to the customer...

I've been getting my PB and 80/20 strings in bulk from Euphonon for years. Not sure if Martin or D'Addario manufactures them, but they sound/feel great to me.

Thanks for that...I think I bought in on the group buy from there a couple times ago...I hadn't heard if they were possibly D'A's or Martins but I'd totally believe it...I tried the coated stuff for a while but didn't think they were all they were cracked up to be...

The cheapest strings I have found are from Musicians Friend, they are even cheaper than Stringthis.com after you factor is shipping. They sound pretty good for about 1 hour of steady playing and after that they are lifeless. I highly recomend getting some quality strings for that guitar.

Maybe it's time for another group buy and we can ask Lance to spend another month of his life packaging them and sending them out...... :D Just kidding of course and what I really want to say is that I remain very grateful to Lance and Brock for the last group buy and still have a great stash of strings.

I completely agree with Colin that for all the trouble that we go to to build the best guitars that we can we should be looking for strings that will best compliment the particular guitar and not be overly concerned about a couple of bucks.

It's also important to note that different strings intonate differently too which is why I have standardized on one brand of string.

Point well-taken Hesh, I agree that spending months creating a guitar and then trying to shave a buck off a pack of strings is silly...I'm actually looking to put a bunch of worship leaders into some strings that won't break their fragile piggy banks! They all play acoustic/electrics and all use light guage strings...so my thought was to do a small "bulk" buy and set them up so to speak...as for my own customers' guitars, I use only strings wound with unobtainium over a core of gossamer/unicorn tail, treated with a long-life coating of ambergris harvested from a secret beach...don't bother asking for the location, 'cause then it wouldn't be a secret!! :D
