I have a repair project on an old Gibson that will require a re-bind job on the neck. I ordered the cream plastic binding from Stew mac but the color is off. It is too orange. The original binding is lighter and pale cream. Any ideas?

There are a couple of other places you might try.. one of them is LMI and the other is the Martin 1833 custom shop.

Hope this helps!
Ken

Thanks Ken, I'll look into Martin since LMI doesn't have the stuff I need either.

I'm pretty sure Gibson didn't use ivoroid on a 54. But then again with Gibson, you never know. I have the body stripped and it sure looks to just be cream in color. David Collins? Help!
I will wipe the body binding with some water to see if any detail comes out of that.

It's likely a plain white celluloid, and was likely bright white when new. What that means is that you'll need to color you own to match. That should be a breeze for ya!

Good idear' Mario! The tough part is the top of the fretboard where it is just scraped with no finish but then again, the color is not that far off that I can just go with the scraped look there and color the sides for a match.
