Thanks K.O. Hesh, Bob, Todd and Waddy for your encouragement. So far, so good. I want to take plenty of time preparing the guitar for finish.

Cheers

Thanks everyone for your encouragement and support.

The lap slide guitar binding has been leveled now and she has been sanded down to 400 grit. The saddle slot has been cut, bridge has been located and the nut is fitted. BTW her name is "SASSIE".

Thanks for looking

Cheers

Further progress the past few weeks. The bridge was glued on, nut fitted and she has had three wash coats of hard shellac. After some test runs with the shellac on some scrap pieces I new Sassie was going to be a honey blonde. Well, as they say, blondes have more fun.

I couldn't help myself and had to string her up for a few days. The tone is rich and full with nice balance. I am very, very pleased! The machine heads and strings will come off in a few days and I will continue with the shellac process.

The final pics will be coming up shortly along with a sound clip.

Hope you have enjoyed the build and thanks for taking the interest.

Cheers

Hey Alan,
You should be "very pleased!" The guitar looks great. The shellac is starting to bring out the beauty in the wood. I can't wait to here the sound sample. [:Y:]

Well, "Sassie" my Sassafrass, Myrtle Weissenborn copy was finished this weekend. A month ago I applied six coats of Hard Shellac and she has been drying since. Saturday I level sanded the shellac finish. Then I went through sandpaper 600, 800 grit down to 1000 grit. The final coat was an application of Renaissance Wax to bring up a satin finish on the guitar.

She has been strung up with some medium strings and is singing sweetly. I will record a few samples very soon and post. The tone is big and warm.

Here a a few pics.

Thanks again everyone for your encouragement, advice and support during the build. It has been such an enjoyable challange.

Cheers :D

Thanks Waddy and John for your kind remarks.

John I had the privilage to see and hear Dave Lindley and Jackson Browne perform here in Oz a few years back. Both he and Jackson played beautiful music and the guitars, man did they sound good. Dave played an array of stringed instrument but I was disappointed he only performed one tune on the weissenborn. He has a siginature sound on the weissenborn and he has been playing the instrument since the early seventies. I do love the haunting tone of the weissenborn. Very expressive!

Cheers and thanks for looking

Alan
