Hi, i'm new here.
I've just ordered my first kit, so i'm a complete newbie with this. I'm confisent that i can easily put together this kit, having played around with some guitars before.
but here's the thing, i'm going to put together a few kits to get some experience there, then take a step up, and order separate parts etc... then i'm going to make my own body with an ordered neck. so far i'm confident, but my ultimate goal is building a guitar with a carved body close to my warwick thumb bass. obviously this is going to require carving, not just cutting. and i'd quite like to get a head start with that as it could go horribly wrong, so the question is

where can i find info on carving guitar bodies???

Hi Chris - I don't have an answer for you my friend but I wanted to bump this thread to the top of the list for you.

A lot of OLFers have built or do build electrics and I am sure they will chime in here and help you out.

I know it's going to take some time to develop the skill i'll need for a successful guitar but thats why i'd like to try and get some info now...

Doesn't the Thumb have some of the nicest contours? Extremely similar to a Windsor chair. I'd look for info on carving them. Glue up some pine to practice carving Windsor chair seats, and you'll definitely be able to take on the Thumb.

I am not familiar with the thumb bass, but for general carving tips you might want to check out Bob Benedetto's videos. He carves arch top plates in them. That is pretty much the way I have carved electrics in the past.
