Have any of you guys used these? I see over at SM's site they have been getting very good reviews. I have never tried them. I usually go for boutique pickups, but I am building a guitar for my son and it seems extravagent to splurge for hand wound pickups for a 9 year old.

I tried a set a long time ago, I think. I got something from stewmac that was fairly cheap, wasn't that impressed. But if you are looking for good pickups that are cheap, check out the GFS pickups at guitarfetish.com, There are a few threads here on them, and a lot of reviews at harmony central. I have used 2 sets, some humbuckers and Tele pickups and for the money they can't be beat, probably even for twice the money.

I have read positive things here and there about Golden Age pickups. I was considering using them in my first build. But I had also heard good things about GFS, and they were cheaper. Both of them are asian-made(China or Korea), and I'd be willing to bet are about the same quality.
I can recommend the GFS Vintage '59 humbuckers. Really great pickups for the cash.
