Look, guys, it's not that hard...

Martin OM's ALWAYS have 1 3/4" nuts, 25.4" scale and 14-fret necks!

MANY Martin OOO's have the long scale and 14-fret necks, many others have the short scale and 12-fret necks, but NONE has all three of the above properties of the OM.

Any MARTIN deviations from the above are special orders and don't count in the basic designations of models.

Russell,

First of all, congratulations on one fine guitar! Really beautiful.

Noting that several people asked about Cherry (UK vs US.) I'm not sure what species you have, but there are 2 species of Cherry that grow in the US: Black Cherry (Prunus serotina) and Wild Red Cherry (Prunus pennsylvanica). Unless someone knows the sawyer, or really knows their wood, a wood bin at a lumber store marked "Cherry" could contain either species. (More Black Cherry is recorded as cut, so the odds are...)

Since most luthiers know Honduras Mahogany's - Swietenia macrophylla (HM) characteristics, it makes a good comparison.

Black Cherry is stiffer and stronger than HM, with nearly identical density to HM.

Wild Cherry has about the same stiffness as HM, and nearly the same (10%less) strength as HM, but is quite a bit lighter with about one-fourth less density.

I think Cherry (both US species) should make a very fine neck wood.

Dennis

The Cherry that Russell's neck would come from here in the UK is Prunus avium (Bird Cherry) grows to about 25m with a girth of 1m+ the timber has a SG of about 0.6-0.7 so is about the same as most samples of HM. It's been used as a neck wood for lutes for centuries.
