Hello all!

I am new to the forum and very new to guitar building. I am working on a bolt-on body out of ash, and a neck-through out of poplar and oak. They are both my own body design and I can post pics of them if anyone cares to take a look.

Now to my question....

I am planing out a third build and have been toying around with the idea of building a baritone. I have a LARGE hunk of hard maple and a small amount of purpleheart to make another neck-through, and I was going to make it into a baritone. My problem is that I am not comfortable enough with fretwork yet to slot my own board, so I have been buying the Fender scale boards from Stew Mac. Is there anyone who sells the 28 5/8" scale boards preslotted? I found the bass scale (34") boards but that is way too much. Any advice on this would be appreciated!

well whatever scall you are using if you bought one you could just copy the slots.

Cutting a 34" bass board at the 3rd fret will give you roughly 28 1/2" scale if I remember correctly and give you 21 frets with a pre-slotted board.

I never would of thought of that.

i could be wrong on this but i think lmii will do custom boards to whatever fretscale you want. might be worth checking out.

alot of scales used as a standard are based off a 34 inch bass scale. you can also get a 25.5 fender scale out of it using the 5th fret as the nut......its why im building this with 29 blades.....i can do a 34 scale with 29 frets, a 28.6 baritone with up to 26 and a fender scale with 24.........and everyone said "why do that, all that work and youre stuck with one scale.......

And I thought it was just some new-fangled torture device for S&M fanatics!
