Sorry for the bad picture quality, I only had my cellphone on hand. I also forgot to take some pictures of the raw half / quatered log before i started butchering and planing them, i was a bit exited...The blocks are now already resawn into B&S sets, fingerboards, bridgeblanks, headplates etc., as always with my Bäuerle BS 70 bandsaw and the Woodmaster CT. For this event I put a new blade on the saw. I will post pictures of the sets at the weekend. I forgot how many set these chunks yielded. All quatersawn and really tight grained. My shop smells nice now. Cheers

about 23 sets with matching sides, 11 fingerboards, lots of bridgeblanks, difficult to take pictures because surface is reflection and shiny, basically this stuff is black and straight and ringing nice.

cheers, alex

Quite. And if he is, I'm interested. Even if I don't need any wood, really.

Ooh, I was just wishing I had a couple of black Brazilian bridge blanks, for my current project and its possible future sequel... well, actually I was wishing I had something black, light weight, and low damping, but that wouldn't "curse" the guitar with Brazilian rosewood restrictions. But I suppose you can't have everything, and it'll be landlocked due to Lacey either way.

So if you're interested in selling, I'm interested in two black bridge blanks, and prices on other things pizza

Hello, Chris, I am not using the Wooslicers, I am using the Woodsmaster CT.

In general: At this moment I am not selling anything, this is my (strange) hobby. My problem is, if I see a nice piece of wood I can not resist buying it. Quite some people are asking me why I am doing this and what this is good for, well, I like it and one day I will have an answer. And you can learn a lot about wood with turning blocks and lumber in guitar sets.

If you are interested, soon more pictures to come...

cheers, alex

Very curious. I'm getting good links to many photos of Beautiful sets of wood, but the first links to your saw set up take me to a blank screen with the message: "Sorry. No page found." I must be the only one out here who is getting this message on those links. I'd love to see your saw set up. Would you consider reposting with new links?

Thank you,
Patrick

I am using a quite long and high fence, not a point-fence. This is a big missunderstanding, "woodrat" is using the point fence.

here my saw and fence:

Hello,

last weekend I finally had time to do some workshop stuff. I was in holiday, broke my arm because I fell off a forklift (....), had to buy a new car and other stuff to do.

Now I have again time for my resawing passion:

I fell over this maple, and some walnut and flamed ash and pommele eucalyptus.

First the maple....

1. cutting the 52mm / 2 inch thick boards with a Maffel hand-circular-saw
2. drawing the permiter of the blocks with an see-through template
3. butchering the board-halfs on the bandsaw and sawing out the blocks.

Next steps are planing and thicknessing theses blocks. Then resawing into Maple tops. Some look quite nice....

Stay tuned ;)

Cheers, Alex

@chris: Thank you....

...so this weekend I finally managed to do the maple. First planing one side, then squaring the sides and thicknessing in the planing machine. Last step was resawing with my old fellow bandsaw Bäuerle BS 70, equipped with a Lenox woodmaster CT.
The surface of the maple tops is just out of the saw, more or less like planed...

cheers, alex

Besides building guitars I am working in a veneer mill / saw mill as a veneer sales person. So this maple log for example I could by from my boss for a good price. It was not for free, buy payable.

And also there is strange stuff happening. I go somewhere and there is lumber. Few days ago a guy showed up at my workshop...like...hey you young boy having old bandsaw...need this...have fun....gave me a 5 feet long piece of rosewood...still don't know who this was....seems I found my place in this universe....

cheers, alex

BUT...really...working in the saw mill I started about 3 years ago, and we are not doing anything tropical, only european stuff like maple, walnut, oak etc. The nice stuff is like going hunting...

And I started collecting wood more than 10 years ago, has been a long way till here, so to say. These days I am not buying so much anymore

So it's like a karma thing... Kudos to you! If you ever think of selling some of the karmawood, I guess lots of us will make it easy on you.
Cheers,
Miguel.

Check out the little ripper for resaw work. Built by a resaw guy. He says the secret to good resawing is the blade temp. I watched him resaw many plainks with ease For the hobby style band saw users. I just bought mine. let you know how it goes.
