I had been wanting a wall clock in the shop for quite a while for those times when both hands are occupied, covered with glue, or otherwise unable to push my sleeve back to see my watch. A while back, when I routed out the rosette ring below from bookmatched offcuts of Ambrosia maple back plates, I thought, hmmm. Yesterday, I finally got around to taking this little project off my list.

I backed up the Ambrosia maple with offcuts from the redwood top from the same guitar and added a battery-operated clock mechanism and there you go. How many guitars have a matching wall clock?

Nice use of scraps that are too pretty to throw away, and a functional work of art.
( and you know you started something..... We're all going to be building clocks now bliss )

It has a nice strong fundamental resonance at 1 Hz. The sinker redwood adds depth to the tone and the Ambrosia maple contributes highs that are sweet yet redolent of fungus. The use of the laminate top in combination with a total lack of conventional bracing lends it an open airy quality.

Really nice!

Maybe under the circumstances, the clock should be running weeks/months instead of minutes/hours though. Maybe take out a battery or two...

Sorry about that. I'm actually an optimist at heart.
