Hi I have a 36 in woodmaster single drum thickness sander. I still have several of the 80 grit paper rolls that came with the sander. Notice it tears readily . Would like something that lasts much longer . Particularly with ebony, rosewood, coco etc Changing paper is a pita.TNX in advance. Which brand are you using and what are your results.?

I have the best results with the blue Aluminum Zirconia from Klingspors Woodworking shop.
Never had a tear, but the burning can be an issue on the woods you mention.
High feed rate and light passes are your friend.

I use a company called FinTech. Quite inexpensive...

If it tears easily it's probably not best suited for drum sanding imo. I've gotten good quality, good price, rolls
from Supergrit in Pa. I don't use H&L but they are available here.
