I'm wondering if anyone can give me more information about using a honeycomb pattern when making a top. This could be in bracing or the wood itself. I've heard of a laminate top that uses a honeycomb pattern, but I don't know more than that.

You might want to research nomex guitar top, or double top guitar. I personally have not worked with it so only have a reading knowledge about it.

Check the archives here as there should be a fair amount of information on Nomex "Double Tops". The challenge of double tops comes down to added complexities during the build process. Gluing of the Nomex core requires care as do the subsequent build tasks like routing for binding and sanding - you don't want to sand through the very thin top material. Bracing is also something you will likely need to work through yourself - although, I'm sure some of the builders who do double tops will give you some pointers.

You can end up with a lightweight top that is easier to drive than a traditionally built guitar -- but I really like the sound of more traditional guitars and so I've never felt the desire to really experiment with radically different build methods. Let us know your thoughts if you do indeed experiment with a double top build.

I'm looking for more instances of the honey comb pattern being used in guitar tops.

I see that Mcpherson has a carbon fiber guitar with a honeycomb pattern for the top, but I'm not sure this is applicable as that is a full carbon fiber guitar.

Being not sure what you have in mind, I could be off track.

There is a type of top bracing often referred to as "lattice", in which the braces criss-cross and are often topped with a narrow bit of carbon cloth.
