Hello,

A question about side bender waist cauls. I made a set of molds and forms for a baritone uke. Everything was cut on a CNC with exact offsets to account for things like side thickness, slat and blanket thickness, etc... I’m still having a problem though getting the waist all the way down. I’m using a standard side bending jig with the press screw centered on the tower.

What I’m seeing is the waist caul gets bound up I *think* from the pressure point of the press foot. Basically it’s tipping a bit side to side. Words are failing me, here is a pic:

I could put some cork on the caul but my goal was all this pieces are mated for each other so it should fit together nicely.

Any ideas of what I could try or is cork lined the deal? :)

Brad

Take it to the spindle sander and take a little off the center area 'til it fits, or even make it a tad concave.
The main thing is to have even pressure while under tension, imo.

Good call, I will try that. The test piece bent OK, so that’s good.
