Yup best stuff out there for ding repairs. I just purchased some of their CA adhesive in thin and ultra thin too. Have not tried those before.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

I plan to try their products when my current stockpile of BSI runs out.

Perhaps someone with experience can help me out - what exactly is it about their Fill N Finish product that makes it superior to “regular” CA? Their own literature is a bit of a marketing screed - what’s the news from the trenches?

The only thing I know is from their marketing which says that it is a flexible fill that can move with the wood. So my guess is that it doesn't dry crystal hard like regular CA does.

It dries pretty hard. I love the stuff. It makes finish touch up pretty easy. It scrapes and sands very easy and leaves an even surface with no pits. You have to just try it to see the benefits. I keep telling folks that it is a game changer for guitar repairmen.

I use the fill and finish product and their accelerator. I have done a lot of repairs and I have even snuck it in on a sand through on the bindings. When repairing it works well. It is still harder than most finishes so care must be taken when leveling as the surrounding areas will sand faster. I scrape very close and then very carefully level.

I have also pore filled ukuleles.

Like most things, there is a learning curve.There accelerator is really great because it does not eat lacquer like regular accelerator does. That said, I'm still careful about not using it too heavily on lacquer. Mostly I use the thin Fill n' Finish. On finishes, I apply it as thin as possible. For lacquer repair I have the best luck applying it with a small brush. Even though it looks like it dries hard instantly, I give it plenty of time to dry before I try to level it. When it dries, it often skins over on the surface, so best to give it time.

Do you guys use this to fix dings in Nitro? I typically use Nitro on Nitro but it would be nice to have something that works faster.

I've used on dings in nitro too. I also like their gel - I usually use it for jigs and fixtures but with their accelerator on one surface and the gel on the other it's an almost instant bond.

Works great on lacquer and most other finishes. It's nice not having to wait a week for the lacquer to cure before leveling. I find a quick shot or two of the accelerator is better than too much. You can start leveling in an hour but I usually wait 24 hours.

If you have uncured CA when you start leveling, you applied it too thickly. Better to apply in thin layers and accelerate each level.

I use Gluboost on a daily basis. Keep in mind that there are two similar, but different Gluboost CA product lines. Master Glu is their adhesive line, while Fill n finish is formulated for finish repair. The former is brittle and unsuitable for finish repair, while the latter is a bit flexible and works perfectly for drop fills and crack filling. The Gluboost accelerator works with both (as well as with their gel product).
