So far…the real test will be how a guitar sounds using it, being able to pad it on so thinly is encouraging…

So how does one go about getting a quart of this stuff? I went to their website, and then to the “authorized distributor” and I still don’t see a way to order it, a price, or shipping costs. I guess Amazon delivered to my door is not an option?

Hi Ed,

This finish is interesting to say the least. Is there a shop at the coast that carries these items. I’m really looking to get away from nitro and I have a couple of guitars coming up to try it on so I’d be very interested in picking up some product to try.

Thanks, but none of those links gives you a direct way of ordering a quart. None provide pricing or shipping costs. All want you to contact a sales rep to set up a commercial account.

I guess that for the hobby/small shop this is unobtainium for now. It doesn't matter to me. After twenty five-years of building and teaching, life changes are forcing me to close my personal workshop and hang up my apron.

It's a shame. It looks like a product that would have been very much what I have been looking for. A finish that builds quickly with a brush, can be cured instantly with $70 light, sands easily, and buffs to a high gloss --all in one evening in my shop while my wife and daughter slept! If true, it would have eliminated my least favorite part of building.

Time will tell, and I will certainly be checking in here once in a while to see what real world experiences are even if I won't be using it.

This is interesting, I've been considering Solarez for pore filling but have just never got around to it. Is this product very different than Solarez and has anybody here played with that? They make a variety of products. I did contact the manufacturer and they claim I could french polish over it as it's compatible with shellac. Solarez is a polyester I believe, but not certain.

I am still working test panels and will have more info at some point. Being a UV cured finish, and living on the Wet Coast without a UV cure LED means waiting for weather windows, lol. Today the sky is clear…:)

I don’t know. There was the thread where this product was first mentioned that had a link to a 70$ one but I haven’t gone back to find the link. Obviously if adopting the product you’d want one, especially around here. Although putting your feet up in sun while it cures is no hardship, lol.

I’ll at some point do some tests to see just how much light it needs, but it seems to cure in indirect sunlight as well, albeit with a longer cure time.

Like any finish it certainly has a personality and a learning curve. One of those film thickness meters would be an invaluable tool..

Why couldn't you use Grow lights. Not sure how much UV this finish needs to cure but most led grow lights are spectrum adjusted LED as well as UV light.

Maybe it needs a different spectrum?

It does require a certain bandwidth, I have the info somewhere. I’m not sure if grow lights would be any cheaper than LED’s…

I’m also a marine aquarist.. it’s not uncommon to that tunable leds these days that hang out in the uv spectrum… what about 420nm?

From the Clean Armor website:

“Fully cures within several minutes when exposed to low energy LED UVA-lighting between 365nm and 420nm (395nm is most popular) which is the safest range in the UV spectrum. Even sunlight will provide a very fast complete cure!”

This is the same bandwidth range covered by the lights sold by UV3 and Cure UV.

Someone want to dig up the link for the 70$ LED from the other thread?

He can tune his lights to 420, but I’m not sure that’s going to make things go any faster.

Something not often talked about is the tonal effect of different light frequencies for UV finishes. For example, using 420nm light will help give your guitar a more laid-back tone, Bro.

Oh, well I was of course planning on hitting it at 432 for a more natural tone…

Please wear polycarbonate safety glasses when using UV light. I was a contact lens specialist for many years and I have seen some real damage from UV exposure.

Do we dare mention they call us reefers?
