Yeah! I was lucky to snag that board years ago. It's narrow, so a 3-piece back is most likely the route I'll take, but it's vertical grain and the bees-wing figure oughta look really cool when finished. I've for only two sets of it which is a bummer.

I also had another large cocobolo slab resawn and although it's flatsawn, it was extra wide so most of the back will be vertical and riftsawn with the cathedrals trimmed away. It's dense and the dark color is beautiful.

Getting ready to wind some pickups for a new Tele. Going to be using my Taig lathe instead of my Mom's old Singer Sewing Machine.

I have only made a few pickups so far, but I am enjoying the heck out it. And they sound good too.

Doing scatter wind, vacuum potting, all the cool stuff.

In order to use my metal lathe for a winder I had to upgrade to a variable speed motor. Bobbin parts are SM.

Cut down my clunky STEWMAC dread form. The top could not be closed with spool clamps or quick clamps with sides in this form. It has an elegant clamp, but the form seems to be designed for cam clamps (what a surprise $$$). Was able to retain the clamping design. Nice template for a birch form. Pics are in reverse order…?

R. E. Bruné donated a Brazilian Rosewood guitar kit to the Guild of American Luthier conference for their auction. It included the rosewood set pictured a top set, a finished neck and wood for a fretboard and bridge. The kit was not going for as much as I thought it should so I bought it. The neck was 660 mm (not 650) so I put it aside and I had a sonically graded Pacific Rim Tonewoods Lutz top (also bought at the GAL) that I wanted to use.

I slowly have been working on this guitar in between hikes and travel but it is coming along.

Finished the last 4 rosettes for this batch. I've really grown to love making all these little inlays, it's always bittersweet to move on to the next process once the last rosette in leveled.

Starting set-up on this GA sized model, just any old odd bridge pins used because I'll be slotting the bridge holes for larger unslotted pins.these.

The "saddle" is just a strip of maple I use to set/check intonation before routing the saddle slot.

I'll let this settle for a couple of days before cutting the slot.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

So the current amp project is a 1966 all tube, point-to-point 22 watt Deluxe Reverb clone. I ordered some new badges for this project and just received them from my friend at DropLight Industries.

These are stainless and more beautiful in person than the pics can depict. I'm thrilled! Flushtone rides again !!!! :)

The second pic is of the original badges I had made for me last year and I like these better on a silver grill cloth, they have black for contrast. But the stainless one is over the top cool I'll have to build another amp for these.

Those are great, Hesh!

I showed in the monthly zoom meetup today that I’m trying a new end wedge shape I call the zipper.

I had to Google EDM and all I got back was "electronic dance music" LOL

I'll ask John at DropLight what he uses I don't know.

Electrical Discharge Machining... Uses a charged wire that is constantly moving to burn a programmed path through the conductive material. This is done underwater.... Pretty interesting process. I used to program and run parts on one when I worked in the tool and die shop at Beechcraft.

Of course Chris has that right. The sharp inside corners are what gives it away.

Wire EDM is super slow, and thus super expensive. I'd guess waterjet or laser. Perhaps waterjet laser, where you shoot high pressure water through a tiny nozzle and aim the laser into it like a fiber optic. It cools the workpiece, flushes debris, and guides the beam into tight spaces, giving similar quality cut to wire EDM in a fraction of the time, and works in non-conductive materials. High on my list of machines I'd like to build :)

I really like a lot of the current non-traditional soundhole inlays But I'm glad to see some of the old style marquetry rosettes still being done. Yours look great!
