My previous guitars have all been done with ABS binding and pfurlings from LMI. Now with their limited stock I'm forced to mix ABS and PVC if I want to continue my usual design. Any thoughts on mixing ABS and PVC?

I have never tried it and I would be hesitant to say it would work. I have done a number of binding using ABS but have not tried mixing them.

I know from working on plumbing it is a no-go to glue ABS and PVC and under code you must have mechanical connection. The joint will fail.

Maybe someone here has experience with mixing the two but I wouldn't think they will stick together.

Otherwise you might go with ABS and that wood-like fiber stuff that is dyed

Cheers,
Bob

If you use CA then it would probably work. Test on scrap.

Also, abrading the surfaces of the plastic with sandpaper will always help with mechanical adhesion.

I’m guessing they would also age differently down the road, if that’s a concern, but don’t really know.
