I started cutting up the Brazilian as carefully as I could...

So far I got about 40 fretboards 50 bridge blanks six sets of sides two sets of backs and I barely made a dent in it lol.
I'm so excited about it. I actually started building a guitar out of it a jazz classical.
This is the biggest board of the batch it is 6 1/2 feet long. It averages 11 inches wide and it is an inch and a quarter thick there is not one little crack in it and maybe about two little worm holes on one edge lol.
It's gonna be hard for me to cut into this board, but I'm gonna have to sooner or later.

Brad what blade and the specs, and what machine are you using. I was just told about the highland blade available in 1/2" and 3/4" with a .032 kerf which sounds really good. And typically how much are you losing to sanding?

I have a 4.5 HP 24" laguna bandsaw....

I use (and swear by) a 1" wide Lenox carbide tipped Woodmaster blade-the kerf is.060-This blade has lasted many years and still cuts ebony, Ziricote, rosewood,etc. like butter!!

I have tried several different blades and have not been happy with the results-especially plain steel blades.

I try to cut the backs at around .160 ( .110 -.115 finished after joining) and the sides at around .140 (.090 finished)-I have found that if I go any thinner I always regret it.

I can cut the sides a little tighter because they don't have to joined which also loses some thickness.

My theory is I would rather cut a little thick than ruin a set.

In a perfect world -yes
Unfortunately I don't live in one-Theoretically if you have a perfectly flat board, but they never are.. so I always joint one face so, it is no longer a full inch.

I err on that side as well Brad although I love a Timberwolf, 1/2" 3 TPI steel blade for the two, three or four sets a year that I do on my 17" 2 HP saw. I've actually gotten 5 slices per inch but then I have an odd man out!

That’s why I buy 5/4 or 8/4, but I guess when it’s a barn find ya take what you can get…:)

Hell yeah. It's what you do with what you got and it's not consistent for the most part.
