I bent the Black Acacia I got from Don this weekend. It bent like butter, but it sure did stain green. I am woundering if maybe I over wetted it or over cooked it. I scrapped and sanded for ever and I still see a bit of a green hue in some places.

Hmm, strange? Did you wrap the wood in foil? Is it possible the steel slats stained it? Do you use steel slats for that matter? I took a wet wash cloth and wiped both sides of each side just enough to darken the wood with water, then wrapped them in foil, placed them between stainless steel slats and bent them. I'm not sure what temp, but I wait to hear the water sizzling, then I bend, usually takes 2 or 3 minutes total.

I have had that happen to koa. What happens when you wipe it with mineral spirits? Can you still see the green? Mine went brown while the mineral spirits were wet and under finish it looks fine.

Michael,
I've never had it turn green on me....?! What were you bending the wood with? Were you using distilled water, or tap water?

I wetted like I was bending Koa. I wrapped in foil. It took about 10 min to bend but I am still using the bulbs so the wood does not heat as fast and evenly as it would with a blanket. (next on my wish list).. The staining was worst at the waist.
