Luthiers can be a messy lot. I've been planning on organizing all the tips, leads, techniques, etc, etc, catalogs, printouts, tool catalogs, material catalogs, from everyone Euphonon to Martin, Rockler to Lee Valley.

Well, Staples has hanging files for 3.97 and a hundred file folders for 3.97. I bought two boxes of each and may use them all.

Under finishing alone: Sylvan Wells, Proulx, Doolin, Greven, Hoffman, Petros, McKnight, Epoxy two part, Epoxy Spray application, McFaddens, you get the idea. My wife bought the new dented file cabinet for ten bucks, two years ago.

Luthier.org that's me, well as soon as I finish. bd

Good for you Bruce. I know better and had everything saved to my computer. The enevitable happened and my hard drive gave up the ghost. I will miss my inventory and all my online purchase records but there is no way I can spend the amount I was quoted by a lot of data recovery companies. The wife gave me a new printer for Christmas and I am going to be making hard copies from now on, well, that and start backing up my data on regular basis.

Now it's my desktop that's messy all the time.

I keep important files better organized than the ones on my desktop. And like Don, I learned the hard way about making backups.

But I managed to make a bunch of sawdust today while re-inventing my workbench.

All my paper is in the bottom drawer of a dresser in my shop. Except for my invoices which I place in a file(provided by my lovely wife). I can't hardly keep my shop clean let alone paper work. Hey Bruce, throw some organizational tools this way. On my computer I have a desktop folder thatcontains many others, its name is "desktop junk". Guess I should edit that folder someday! I do have to admit when everything has a place and in it what a blessing. Easy to find and no surprises.

Don,
Do like I did with my Tax Practice. I bought a High speed document auto-feed Scanner. Now I scan all Documents into my Lap top. Once done scanning I immediately copy to my Cd-rom and have a b/u of what was just scanned. I can keep an entire years worth of over 200 tax returns and detail documents and not even fill up one cd. I don't even print my copy of the clients tax return anymore since I have it on CD. You should see how much difference that makes in storage at my office. Not to mention how many trees it saves.

Thats my plan Dave. She got me a printer/scanner/copier/fax all in one machine. I also just added a DVD 2 sided burner so I'm set. I knew better but the hard drive that crashed was new. Problem was I moved everything from the old drive, installed it in my wife's computer, and then formated it. I might have been able to recover the files but she had already added all of her picture collection. From now on, I keep paper copies, scanned copies, and electronic
