Hi Guys!

Saw this for $50 as I'm still looking around for drill press. Yes, being a newbie this will be my first drill press. What do you guys think? good buy or not?

Does it work?

I have no opinion, usually comparison shop.

I love older, quality tools.

I paid $125 twenty years ago for an old Craftsman, great machine.

I use them for flycutting soundholes and drilling tuner holes square.

And you can make a pencil holder out of a block of wood in a jiffy. Grin....

Others use them for buffing out finishes, and fly-thicknessing wood with a wagner power planer....

Yes if the motor spins and the bits don't wobble. This drill press will be worth $50 for the next ten years. You can always sell it for that when/if you get a new one.

If it runs smoothly, doesn't have any slop at the chuck, and of course you have room for it... go for it. Have you priced any floor/production model presses? Fifty bucks is a steal.

Worst case scenario - arbor press for fretting, or use it (manually) to keep a tap or ream square to your part. [:Y:]

(That was a J-O-A-K...DON'T steal it! And yes, it's a good deal if it drills straight and the hole's the same size as the bit!)
