Has anyone refinished with nitro over an old Tru-Oil finish? I'd think it would be best to strip/sand back to bare wood, then prep for nitro finish and shoot as usual...but are there residues left behind that would mess up a nitro finish?

The solvent in nitro (lacquer thinner) will soften, curl and make a sticky mess out of any kind of oil-based varnish. You could try to shoot of pad a couple of coats of shellac over the Tru-oil (try on scrap first…), or scrape it off…
