Anybody know where I can find a 14 fret, slotted neck, dovetail? I just found out Martin does not make this anymore. 25.4" scale length.

Any tips?

I am thinking of using one of the large neck blanks & heel blocks from Allied Lutherie (mohagony).

I know nothing about this process... but tools are available. Do you cut the neck, then glue a heel block to it?

Do I sound clueless? Cause I am. I want a 14 fret slotted peghead neck. Don't want to pay $250-$300 for a custom neck (my guess). Even if I do spend $300, this way I end up with the knowledge and the tools.

I might split the neck block and insert a ply of bubinga! Whadya think? Should be more dimensionaly stable too.

Mike,

Chris at Hanalei Moon made me a wonderful solid mahogany 14 fret, 24.9 scale slothead neck for my L-00 "style" project.
It was reasonably priced and no where near the price you stated in your post. Drop him an e-mail and I'm sure you will be pleasantly suprised.

Ray

An excellent article by Mario Proulx in a recent issue of Guitarmaker shows his methods.

Although I want to learn, I cannot turn down Chris's offer at Hanalie-Moon. VERY reasonable... Thanks for the tips all.
