To my eye this looks pretty slick and more convenient than taping sandpaper to glass, and not needing water seems pretty nice too as it’s always such a mess.

Anyone have one or tried one? I think I’ll pull the trigger when I can…

No I have not tried one.
I have their 8x3" dual sided diamond stone, 300x 1000 about 10 years ago. Diamonds were bonded to a 1/8thk steel plate. I see they have changed their base substrate and form factor for those stones.

I have a small 8x12x3" thk granite surface plate and use dollar-store Windex to wet and adhere paper to it. I usually finish off a cutting edge with 1200 paper on the plate. Windex on the stone is very manageable. The plate is always available to check flatness, and I use it very often. THis remnds me I need to cut a plywood cover for it, JIC...

This setup looks nice Ed.

Thinking the plates were likely to interfere with each other under certain operations as they are fixed and on the same plane.
I watched a couple videos where this played out.

I would be interested to see how this station might evolve in the future with more feedback.

What gregorio said.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.
