Well at least you didn't show a picture of one of our members beloved cats..........(or my dog).....
That reminds me of the time I asked a Phillipino friend of mine, a real scream by the way, "What dog tasted like'? He said, almost indignantly, "IT TASTES LIKE CAT"!!

I had to ask!
Anybody have any good recipes for rub???
I have a very simple one that we use for all our meats. It is very easy to add stuff to, to tailor the final mix to your tasts:

Equal portions (by volume) of salt, granulated (not powdered) garlic, and paprika. Half portion of ground black pepper. E.g.:

1 T salt
1 T granulated garlic
1 T paprika
1/2 T ground pepper.

Add whatever else you want to it, but this makes an excellent base for all meats.

Best,

Michael
Say what you want, but we don't have a decent BBQ place in the whole LA basin. Not one!

It's like a giant BBQ desert!
I lived in SoCal for 24 years, and in the LA area for about 15. I couldn't agree more. Angelinos think barbeque means burning tri-tip on a grill, and then calling it "Santa Maria style BBQ" and serving it with "chili beans." They also haven't a clue when it comes to Cajun/Creole food. You couldn't find a good bowl of gumbo in the entire LA basin to save your life. And sausage! Don't get me started about sausage selection in LA!

There was a fellow from Texas who opened up a Texas-style BBQ joint in Whittier back in the early 90s. I went there quite a few times. The Q was quite good. Sadly, the place closed down less than a year after it opened. If the guy would have sold barbacoa also, his business would most likely have thrived. Oh well. But one thing I do miss about the LA area is all the burrito joints. Guess they're the LA equivalent to Texas' bbq stands.

Best,

Michael

It does. Quite a bit tougher, though, sometimes. So do frog legs, far as that goes.

Best,

Michael

You got it Michael!! I would settle for even a second place joint! We have a place less than 2 blocks from here... "Taste of Texas", they have the NERVE too call it!

It's horrible! Grusome!!

For this we can be thankful! I found a place called Alberto's in the SGV. They're great, but you have to be careful because they vary, drastically, from place to place.Billy T38867.6485185185

Taste of Texas, eh? Not very original. There's an excellent steak house here in Houston by that very name. Been around for twenty years or better. Wonder where those folks in LA got that name from?

The "Burrito Hut" I think it's called, over in East Whittier. I think it's on Mills Rd. Give it a try if you're ever out that way. Back in the early-to-mid 90s it was da place for burritos in that part of town. Our favorite sit-down places were La Scari's (great Italian) and Seafare Inn (both in Whittier, both on Whittier Blvd).

SGV -- I lived in Alhambra and Rosemead for a few years. Most of the places the wife and I went to in the SGV were Chinese. She's Chinese, so I let her pick 'em. There was a good Korean BBQ buffet at the corner of Colima and Fullerton Rd. (you helped yourselves to the meats and grilled them at the table). Wonder if it's still there.

Is Norm's still around? A coffee shop right out of the fifties, but the food was always good.

Best,

My sister used to tell me about that place. She worked off of Washington, I think, she loved that place!

Oh! You bet!! Great food! They've been remodeling. Looks like everythings brand new from the 50's! I like Norm's a lot!
