Thanks Trev. I wound up having to offset both out and down by the radius of the bit. That doesn't seem right so I must have been doing something wrong.

I couldn't figure out how to get the bit to enter the workpiece from the bottom of the part on both sides of the neck so I created a region for each half of the neck. This allowed me to rotate the angle of cut 1 degree for each half so that the outside cuts were parallel to the edge of the neck

I've been using Visualmill for about two weeks now and am finding it a revolution compared to what I was using. I see the value in RhinoCAM now. It's a bit of a pain to switch back a forth. I suspect you'd need a work station type computer to keep things moving at a reasonable speed though.

The Z height issue you are running into may also depend on the height that you have drawn the part at. I always draw the bottom of the part at Z=0. I also split the toolpath into a treble and bass half, as you've done. I haven't angled the toolpath in the past, but that's a cool trick...I'll probably work that in next time I run a carve. The only way that I know of to control where the cut starts in RhinoCAM is to change the "Start Side" from top to bottom (this option is in the 'Parameters' section of the toolpath definition).

I like RhinoCAM. The one thing I don't like, is that if I upgrade Rhino, I'll have to upgrade RhinoCAM as well (I'm running Rhino 3.0 still). I'll probably hold off until the rendering gets better...Rhino 5.0 might be the ticket. The display accuracy is probably one of the few complaints I have about Rhino...

In the next couple of steps, I move the edit points for this spline along the Z and X axes in order to make it round as shown.

Great tutorial, many thanks. Got one problem:
Think there is an image missing would it be possible to add it again please?

Respect!

Hi Marzano, just keep scrolling down on the first page and you'll see a response with the pics back in it. I'm glad it helped!

Cheers Trev, I know and did scroll down, it seems that there's a picture missing in that post (or I'm missing something)

EDIT: link "http://www.peakeguitars.com/images/rhinocarve/rhinonecktut7-hscurve2.jpg" is not working.

Page one stroll down 2/3 the page and you'll see all the attached shots. No problem here.

This tutorial shows one way to do it - surfacing is an art in itself and like most, there is not one right way. 4,000+ views, wow!
