Hi - I am looking for recommendations for a bridge for a solid body electric guitar. I do not want a tremolo and am planning on building it with a small neck angle and having the neck flush with the (carved) top and with a reasonably short (ie Gibson-style) scale.
I have been looking at the Schaller 3D roller bridges, but am also thinking about a Gibson LP style. Any suggestions please ?

I prefer stop tail type bridges where the saddles don't also play the role of
holding the string ends. I feel like it provides less stress and more
downward pressure for the body (both good things).

I second the Stoptail bridges. Favourite type. Gotoh makes very nice stuff (check Warmoth's selection, 510 series in particular, and StewMac's), Hipshot's another great brand, and Pigtail's bridges are a nice, unique alternative. Most are fairly tall, needing between 2.5 and 3.5 degrees of neck angle, but is that a real problem? All the guitars I've made to date with simlar bridges have fingerboards flush to the carve.

Honestly, while I think the Schaller 3D bridge is a good quality unit (used one on my first), it's a bit....old-fashioned looking. And not in a nice vintage retro sort of way.

I like the Hipshot baby grand, it's a wonderful bridge IMO and it looks classy. For something more standard looking, I really like the TonePros bridge/tailpiece (one piece).

Thanks a lot for the info - I'm going to go with the separate bridge and tailpiece. (Got a lovely piece of sycamore lined up for the body and neck laminates, with mahogany :-) ).
