I maybe in need of some very thin very dark Rosewood veneer as in furniture grade thickness veneer. My client does not think the veneer on the Watkins neck I got for him is dark enough. even though I have tried to explain that it will darken under finish and the fretboard will not have finish. I have some peghead top plates that match the back veneer pretty well, and I am going to finish one to show him how much darker the rosewood will be under finish. So I may not need it but just in case, if anyone has any, as I do not have the ability to thin that much, I would appreciate the help.

Well after several emails I think I have quited my clients fears so I think all is well now. I understand that he really wants all of the like woods on this to match exact but as all of us that do not cut our own blanks from billets or boards know that is not always likely. I guess I an going to have to start making my own blanks one of these days. Besides variance is a large part of character! Right MichaelP38931.6282523148

Dang....

Client vs Sanity. Client vs. Sanity.

Hmmm..... I think I'll build on spec from now on...
I don't want customers who don't understand that wood is wood.

Michael.....

Recently I used some Tru-Oil on some EIR and sure turned it at least 3 shades darker. Actually darker than I wanted it to be. Now it's been 3 months since I stained it and it's still very dark.

I also have some dark EIR if needed.

Respectfully,
walter

Can he see the bridge and backstrap at the same time - not without a bunch of mirrors !!!! Dig cameras and the internet - we cant live wothout them, but dang they can make life hell with certain clients.

I had a very shall we say discrimnating customer last year - grain orientation of darn near every piece of wood .... the finished product silenced him, its hard to talk with your bottom jaw on the floor while standing. Then he played it, and cut the final cheque. Besides, when you are playing it with your eyes closed, soaking in each tonal nuance, you cant see the guitar anyway !!!

He is a very nice guy. this is his first hand-crafted guitar. and he save a while to be able to aford it. But yes hes is a little to wourried a bout perfection in the wrong areas. I have had several client I have had to explain how colors change depending if your looking up grain (aginst the natural runout) or down grain (with the runout) It takes a while to get this concept through to some one that has never really worked with wood.
