Steve Hamlin, Warwickshire, UK

Oracle Developer by day.

Building mandolin family instruments to my own Vega and LH inspired 'Ridgeback' design (from piccolo to bass) and (soon) Vega cylinderback repros.

Enjoy using tools without plugs where it doesn't negatively impact the result.

Always learning new stuff, which is as it should be.

I'm glad to be a part of this great community. It is THE guitar discussion stop on the internet....and it doesn't hurt that it's made up of the finest folks around either.

Thanks for letting me in,
Jeff Hogan...
Mechanical draftsperson, cnc programmer, wood worker.
I play guitar, piano (beginner) and squareneck slide guitar (dobro).
I have built one dobro from mahogany and am nearly finished with my second dobro. It is cherry. The mahogany sounds great, but the cherry is beautiful.
I am beginning a walnut guitar, my first attempt at a real guitar.
Hey Jeff, we have a lot in common! Except I've been trying to learn to play the squareneck I built, but dang it's harder than it looks.

Don Williams

Married 22 years, no kids, 4 Scottish Fold cats.
Into building guitars, and enabling other people's Wood Acquisition Syndrome.
Occasional dart throwing beer drinker (sounds dangerous, eh!) and addict to Sci-Fi friday night.
While I don't drink beer, I do have a really nice dartboard in my family room. When I throw the darts, my cat DK will watch them and chatter like a machine gun. It's totally hysterical.

Friday night SciFi....I'm totally addicted to Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis....

A good Friday night is throwing darts, watching my cat chatter, and watching the Stargate shows...

I'm also getting into that show "Surface". Cool stuff.

O heck, guess I'd better brush off my html then

Thank you for the welcome. I've mostly just lurked here, but have been most appreciative of time and effort taken by all maintaining fora such as this and by those willing to take the time to help, no matter how elementary or obscure the question from an ab initio.

18 months ago I could barely sharpen a chisel, let alone use a plane. Now, thanks largely to the online lutherie community I'm obsessive about woods, sharp shiny things and perpetual improvement - hmmm, may be a good thing I'm single

It's interesting to gain a little more insight into one and all.

Artist/illustrator/production supervisor by day at an advertising agency.
Default IT person because I've been here so long (started with 1 computer
and had to figure out how to make the first one talk with the 2nd).

Husband to Jeri for 38 years. She may not be perfect, but she's as close as
humanly possible.

3 grown children:
Daughter Jennifer, married, 1 beautiful grandson, Jack

Twin sons Christopher and Geoffrey -- Chris is married, another beautiful
grandson, Riley.

Like many of you, luthier at any other moment I can find, starting 35
years ago.

Living in Norwood, MA, 10 miles outside of Boston.

Serge, I didn't see as much as you! 50 times by 35, where did you live, on a boat?

Mike Mahar
52 years old
Software engineer since 1977. I still like it.
Wife- Clo (19 years)
Son- Steven (15 years)

I dabble in many things. Woodworking, Songwriting, Contra Dancing, Drawing, Golf, Fencing, Science geek, and trying to learn everything before I die.

I play guitar, banjo, mandolin, and lately fiddle. Don's right. The Dobro is hard to make sound good. My few attempts have been a disaster.

I've made 3 guitars, two mandolins, and a bass kalimba. I've helped some others get started building. If I were a bit better at it myself, I'd like to teach.
