I was just browsing at Woodcraft and found a sale on the Veritas Mk II honing guide as well as some granite surface plates if anyone is interested. I know there was some talk about these recently so it might be something you would like to check out.

Yeah, twenty bucks for a 9"X12" granite plate is cheap! Also, I think that they're selling the MK II guide for less than Lee Valley does. I can't remember ever seeing any Veritas product offered for less than Lee Valley's price. That's like someone selling new Waverly tuners for less than Stew-Mac!

Wonder what shipping is on that granite plate? Would be nice to buy that and retire my old piece of Home Depot tile...

If you have a Woodcraft store near you, you may be able to just pick it up or you can order direct from a store also I think.

I checked. $6.99 if you just buy the plate. It's probably just their regular rates. That's how I got mine from Lee Valley a couple of years ago.
Any one know any thing about this plane, any good?
You're kidding, right? It's a Lie-Nielsen!

I've got the bronze version, and yeah, it's an excellent tool for small touch-up jobs. It doesn't replace a standard block plane, though. The mouth isn't adjustable, and it's a little too small for some jobs.

BTW, I wouldn't buy the bronze version again. It looks and feels better than iron, but it's softer, so the sole scratches too easily; and, if you drop it it's more likely to be bent into unuseability.CarltonM38940.6560648148
