I read a the post on drum sanders and noticed a few people complain about the high cost of replacing the sandpaper conveyer belt. I had the same problem with my Performax 22-44. I found that if I didn't keep a close watch on the belt allignment and it drifted too far to one side or the other the belt would ride up the angle iron support on either side of the platen support. Resulting in added strain on the conveyer belt and seld destructing. Now at $65 to $75 a pop for a 3M replacment it's a pretty expensive lesson. Well Bob Steidle gave me the e-mail of a woman named Kim that sells a big variety of sandapaper, disc's, belts etc. I e-mauiled Kim to see if she may have something that would fit. Well she had one that was the right length but an inch too wide. Cost $15+ I ordered 2 to try it out. I cut 1" off of one edge put it on the machine and it has been working great for several months now. For a couple of dollars more she would make up the right width. I also buy her sandpaper rolls which are good quality and a really good price. I strongly recommend her products. discount_abrasives@yahoo.com

I have a ryobi drum sander that uses a rubber conveyor and in my opinion it is much supperior to the sndpaper job it came with. Now the ryobi and the performax to my view are very similar, I am wondering if the belt from the Ryobi would fit the performax. I don't know but I could take some measurements if anyone is interested. Actually re-reading the post my ryobi is a 16"er and I don't know if they have anything wider.

Bob--this is more timely than you know. I have the same machine you do, the Performax 22/44, with the same problem. My conveyor belt is just about chewed up.
By the way, what grit paper did you get for the conveyor belt?

Like Bob I bought a cloth 16" x 48" belt in my case 80 grit. I coated it with shellac so that it would shed the
sanding dust $17 and works just as well as the original Performax belt. When I replaced the belt I also installed the ceramic belt tracking guides sold by performax and they keep the belt well centered and it looks like my problem is solved.http://www.extremausa.com/accessories/sandpaper.html

Oh, my belt is rubber and I've never had a moments problem with it tracking or nothing else, but it's only three years young.

Good timing here, too! I just put my last in-stock replacement belt on about a month back, and I like to have at least one in stock to use right awaw! I wrote and asked for 3.

Bob, what's the length of yours? My feed is from an older SuperMax 25, but I think it's the same belt as the 22/44

Mario my belt measures 22" x 48" Glad my timing was good.

Hmmm, that a good bit shorter than mine, which is, I think, 61-1/2" long by 25 wide. Guess there's more to it than just the width.

Just got a note from Kim; same price, though!

I need to call a few Canadian suppliers to see if they can match that, but it sure as heck beats performax's prices! Thanks for getting us thinking in this direction.

Mario my machine is model 22-44 plus a whole new animal. The belt is quite a bit shorter than the 22-44.
