OLF Arkansas Guitar Get Together

August 19th, 2006 @ Dickey Guitars, 1815 Skyline Drive, Russellville, AR 72802

Looks like we have enough already for a good time. So far these folks have expressed an interest:

Matt Jacobs, Mattyeo, Pine Bluff
Ron Wisdom, Old Man, Beebe
Jon Kendall, Letseatpaste, Siloam Springs
Jimmie Sorrels, Jimmie D, Germantown, TN

Jon mentioned he might have a couple guests. Wives, other friends welcome too. I've set aside six sets of B/S tonewood for the first six luthiers, kind of a gas incentive/offset and just because I want to do that.Dickey38938.9406134259

Hi, Bruce. Old Man is in Beebe, not Searcy, although I spent all of today there at a teacher thing.    As of now, I plan on coming. What time of day do you want us to show up? (and leave)

I haven't nailed down the time for sure. Depends on a couple of things, when Jimmie can make it, so far he's driving 3.5 hours one way, so ten o'clock a.m. means he's got to get on the road at 6:30 a.m.

I'll be up and around I'm sure pretty early, so some can come earlier than ten. But if we shoot for 10 to 4, that might be long enough. I'm open to suggestions, after all, it's a lot of effort to get here.

Even after 4 I'm not going anywhere, so for those who wanted to hang longer we could or even go out for an evening meal? Let's play it by ear, and get it nailed down after everyone chimes in or PM's me.

What's good for you? bd

I had a good chat with Matt Jacobs tonight. This fellow might be familiar to some of the Texicans and especially LINT Luthiers....Dickey38938.9503819444

10 to 4 sounds good to me, though I might get there a little earlier. Whether I could stay later depends on if my grand kids are coming to my house Saturday afternoon.

Also, is Skyline Drive the same as 326?

I think 10-4 or so works for me, too. Might be a little late depending on how early we get out, if I've got to coordinate picking up my friends, etc...

Thanks for putting this together, Bruce.

We'll make it come and go then, scheduling the important things in the middle.

Yes, Skyline Drive is Highway 326. If we have snow, my road is cleared quickly. grin. We hit 102 yesterday. I'm watering like a fiend.

10-4 sounds great to me. for the first hour or so we should probably just mill about the shop, that will give the people coming from far away(or lost, latrine breaks, etc)some leeway.

Woo Hoo, got the day off from work. Bruce, I will probably drive up Friday and get a motel room for the night. Can you recommend anything that is close to where you live? If you aren't busy Friday night maybe we could go out to dinner somewhere too.

All Right, we'll add you in. I had no idea. What do you guys think about a cookout onsite?

Black Angus 1/3 Pound Burgers with all the trimmings? I have a charcoal grill that will cook twenty simultaneously. Any skilled cooks among us? Gary C. is a conusumate chef, unfortunately... he's not coming that I know of.... grin.

Welcome Mike.

I'll be off forum a bit this week, as I attempt to spruce the place up. Got all seventy sets of Bubinga out of the garage and down to the shop. Much more to cut. The ebony, snakewood, and flamed maple is moved too. What a haul. I hit Silver Power Seller last week on the Bay.

Okay, email me for my cell number. Thanks, Bruce

I see, no Dave, but Chris. Got it.
I heard from JimmieD and he is wondering if any wives or girlfriends are coming. His wife is considering coming. Well guys?

Also, why don't you email me for my cell number and give me yours as well. Great for last minute directions.

My brother in law turns out won't be able to make it. He is a great picker, really good, but he's also scout leader for his son's scout group and he had a prior commitment. sry....

However, it does appear to be shaping up for a good time guys and gals if any make it... Dave Rector is coming in early on Friday. Dave, Steve the Alembic Bass player for The Big Daddy and the Pork Chops is opening for the Marshall Tucker Band at Valley Fest here on the River. Wanna go hear some music? Fri. Eve.?

Otherwise, I'm hear all day Sat, but for travelers we are shooting for 10 to 4 with cookout on the premises. I have a small pool if you want to cool off, bring your flip flops, coolers, shades, trunks, and jump in. grin.

Sound off... bdickey at cswnet.com

Bruce, don't feel like you have to entertain us. I'm coming to see the shop, maybe buy a piece of wood, meet luthiers, see guitars, have my 1st build critiqued, and maybe jam some (if anyone plays on a level as low as mine) . This is all I need (well, a couple of burgers would be nice ).

Thanks, Serge. I doubt that it would make me feel better, though. Some days I feel like, yeah, I can play the banjo, and some days I can't hit the right string to save my life.    My passion for playing comes and goes and sometimes I'll go 6 months without taking an instrument out of its case. I started too late in life, on the banjo, to get good, but I could be adequate if I could make myself practice.

Bruce, music on the river sounds great. I was a big fan of Marshall Tucker Band back in their heyday. I'm estimating about a 5 hour drive from east OKC to Russellville. Do you think that is about right? If so, I should be there aroung 4:00 or 5:00 depending on how fast I get around that morning.
