That is great news for you and me Mike, Thanks bud! And Congrats on that great find/opportunity!

I just hope that with that big heart of yours that you will manage to keep you some, it's a good call also to send some to BobC and Don, they will provide the sets to OLF'ers at a very good price i'm sure!

Looking forward to see them pics of that wood, Hesh's gift has Black walnut back and sides and the sound, the sound, i mean the sound this guitar has is just sweeeeeet!!!!!

Have fun at the mill Mike!

Serge

Sorry for the delay in responding, Wednesday night Bible Study..........

RichB - thanks for the diagram, yours and Pauls should give the guy an idea.

ScooterB - BobC and others will have sets, if funds are a problem right now, I will try and work something out with you on the sets I get back.

Paul - thanks my friend this will be very helpful, RichB sent me one as well.

Dave Rector - I have you on the list

Anthony Z - I appreciate your options and I will be sitting down with my mill man either tommorrow or Friday and go over cost. I was planning on trading out the upper portion of the tree or parts of the tree for milling. I am hoping that milling will be a wash. Also, I got two trees here, one aged and big and the other fresh cut and big. We are probably the sawmills biggest customer for Oak and Pine for building materials. He is semi-retired so he is not sawmilling full time anymore.

Serge - looks like I finally found what I was looking for. The trees I have been finding available have not had the size or figure probably due to size as well. I am pretty excited to see both trees.

Mike, I live a little north of Houston and I have a resaw, so if you have any left, please put me down for a billet. I love walnut.

Mike,

Not sure why I was thinking you were in Canada....

If I'm to receive wood, I would prefer you to not lose money on it! So if there are expenses associated with the milling etc, I would like to help cover it, as I'm sure everyone who is benefiting from this would like to do as well.

One thing you're going to have to know also, is that if this is a freshly cut tree, the wood should be stacked, stickered and left to dry out of the elements for awhile before you start cutting it up and shipping it out. You'll also want to coat the ends in a product like Anchorseal to prevent checking etc. It's a lot of work...but worth it perhaps.
If you ship green wood, you'll want to coat the whole piece in Anchorseal and then shrinkwrap it to protect it from drastic changes in temp and humidity in the mail.

Food for thought.

Mike,

I would love a billet if you have enough and would be thrilled to resaw and send some sets back to you. Just let me know when you have assessed the situation. Reasonably close here in Colorado as well.

Thanks,

Kevin

Please, please, please count me in! I've only posted a couple of times here, but with the help of Lance and the advice of everyone, I'm going to attempt my first 2 instruments in the very near future. I've been advised that 6 years ago is the best time to start acquiring wood for the instruments, so I've got a lot of aging to do. I'll be glad to pay for shipping or other necessary expenses, as I have no bandsaw or ability to resaw, but would love to sit a set (or two!) aside for my future endeavours, knowing that I'll continue after these first 2 instruments. I love this place! :-)pharmboycu38948.9715393518
