As promised, here are pics of my latest build. It was built for my son, Josh. I couldn't talk him into anything more interesting than a cutaway-less dread. I guess there's a reason that's the most common guitar.

Crotch mahogany back & sides (lumber courtesy of Austin Hardwood & Hardware), Adrondack top from Colonial, maple binding, maple/coco purfling, coco bridge and fretboard (bound in curly maple).

I couldn't find the doomahicky that attaches the camera to the tripod.      So fuzzy pics is all I can offer at this time.

Thanks for looking, and sorry for my unsteady hand.

Nice! I love crotch grain wood even though it's a pain to work with. i think it's one of the nicest types of figure.

Wow! Beautiful, Kelly!

Oh, and the couple of blurry photos probably aren't fuzzy from camera shake. It's more likely because you were focusing closer than the minimum focus capabilities of your lens. (If you look closely at both the blurry photos, you'll notice that the guitar stand is in focus.) If your camera has a "macro" setting, try that next time. Also, don't be afraid to use the flash setting on your camera, even when outdoors. That will help alleviate fuzziness due to camera shake, and sharpen up the photos too.

Best,

Michael

Thanks, guys! Michael, excellent suggestions --- I'm perfectly comfortable setting f-stops and aperture on an old fashioned camera, but this automated "macro" button crap is a little confusing to me.

Here's a couple new picks that incorporate Michael's suggestions:

Beautiful guitar in all respect, i love that laminated neck and headstock, that crotch mahogany is strikingly nice! And a great looking rosette too!

Congrats Kelby!

Nice. The beauty comes through, and I agree with Al, that crotch is gorgeous wood.

Nice job Kelby! How's your dad's guitar doing? Did he get the cracks fixed yet?

Thanks again, everyone!

Joe, I wouldn't say my dad's guitar is "fixed," but it is repaired.    The more problems he has, the more impatient he becomes. So upon seeing the crack, he filled it with epoxy. He couldn't even wait to make some dust to mix in with the epoxy. It's just an epoxy-hued 1/8" filled crack. The guitar will be perfectly functional, but it will always have a big scar down the side.

Sometimes I get frustrated because my Dad really has amazing skills at all things woodworking, but those skills sometimes get masked by a disproportionate sense of urgency. If he could develop a little patience, he could make some truly world-class stuff. On the other hand, he's not in this to make world class stuff. He's just trying to have some fun. And when the guitar is finished, he will enjoy it immensely. It will sound good and look very nice, notwithstanding the scar down the side. And that's really all that matters.

I guess you could say I'm working on developing some patience for my Dad's lack of patience.
