For those of you who have built and setup a lot of guitars for fingerpicking, what type of action do you set at the 12th fret? I just read a good article about guitar setup for fingerpickers, and they recommended 2mm for the low e-string at the 12th fret. That seems a bit low, but for a fingerpicker who is amplified and doesn't play hard with a pick, maybe this is good. What do you all think?

Cheers!

John

That is a bit low, but will work for some!!!   I use 0.078 or 2mm for the HIGH
E and 0.12 (approx 3mm)
for the low E azimmer138947.5199421296

If the player has a light touch, you can set it as low as 65 to 75 thou, high to low. I had a students Collings set liek that, it buzzed for me, but I play way harder than he does. I set my clients up at about 75/95, but my own a hair lower. Much more than that I find high.

I set the low E at .09 and the High E at .06.
I have just a little relief in neck that's pulled in by the string tension and my necks are CF reinforced.
