OK,why does Shane or any other wood supplier draws these triangles on tops? Is this the good side, what are the numbers? Are they telling us something here? Is it code? Come on guys, what's the secret??


I'm sure I'm not the only one out there wondering...

It helps you remember which bits go together, in what place and orientation. E.G., if you are assembling a table top from lots of pieces of wood, and you have gone to the trouble to figure out which bits you want where on the table, you draw the triangles on all the dry assembled wood bits to mark them accordingly. Then when you go to glue them up you line up the marks to assemble in the proper place. SteveCourtright38947.6704282407

I've been to the site some, just haven't posted. Busy with summer activies and all. With all the good things I've heard, I thought that I'd give lutz a try, plus supporting the sponsers. I drew out a plan with my shape and brace locations and might bend some sides this week. Have you any plans for the next build?

My best guess it those two boards belong together, maybe bookmatched and these two faces were adjacent each other when separated by sawing. It is a matched set. Cheers!

Exactly...for the bookmatch. If a set of wood is really really sweet, like some redwood I have, I use hearts instead of triangles or lines.

That redwood....Dang, I feel a Crazy Ritz coming on....

Hey Clinton,

You got the 'orientation' thing answered already. It is indeed a cabinet makers triangle used exactly as Steve indicated. I use it to mark the face of bookmatched sets. That way when my bullmastiff knocks a stack of tops over for me I can get them all back together in the proper sets.

The numbers are a VERY simple code. THe first just tells me what tree it came from and the number below it is the sequence, yours is the 154th set from that tree. The numbers outside the triangle are the date the sets was re-sawn, day/month/year. The tree has been down for many months but I date the day I saw sets. I keep records of all of this data.
