Is there something wrong with KTM9 as I was going to use it on guitar #4 this fall. If so what are the problems and why?? I did my #2 with lacquer. Way to stinky for even the garage. So I was hoping that KTM would be the finish of choice. What else is out there for finishing in the waterborn lacquers these days?? Any info will be helpful.

For me the KTM-9 is not hard enough! You look at it wrongly and it dents!

I've used KTM 4 will some success. It was plenty hard on the bodies but is a little slow to harden on the neck, for whatever reason. I was building classicals then so I finished the neck with the body. Now on steal strings I think I'll follow a slower (more drying time on the necks). I have not tried KTM 9 yet.

This was my first guitar with KTM-9, just really disappointed in the hardness(lack thereof). Seemed like every time I touched it, it left a divot or indentation of some sort....I'm definitely going to change to something else just don't know what yet. It's a shame too because the stuff buffs out beautifully.

I have been using McFaddens two part Catalyzed Urethane Lacquer for about two years now and don't plan to switch for a while. It is 4 times the cost of Nitro but I can take it to the buffer much sooner. It isn't perfect as it has its limitations and touch up woes but I am sticking with it until something better comes along. I know Mario and some others have switched over to Poly so I may have to experiment with that after I empty this 5 gallon can.

KTM9 is an acceptable finish and I have seen some of Mike Doolin, John Greven, Paul Davis and others work up close and it is nothing to sneeze at. Many folks just can't spray solvent based finsihes where they are at so they must use waterborne or farm the finish work out as many have opted to do.

The gallon is still available if anyone is interested. If not, I will put it up on ebay next week.
