Whoa! I better sell the one set I got from Bob. I could make a tidy proffit. But, it could make the guitar I build out of it even more valuable! I need to get some skills!!!

Somebody just sold a similar set on ebay and it went for almost $200 -- not LMI's prices, but clearly much higher than we bought it for.

Clearly Bob is being extremely generous with us.

I nearly fell over when I saw the LMi prices! I'm really glad we've got guys like Bob around here who can supply us with top quality wood at a good price.

There are more Steve Couch's in this old world! You saw the bearded train conductor in my shop last week. That guy owns five handmade Alembic Basses from Santa Cruz. Wow, that's some gorgeous sapele and the color is magnificent.

That set is not just awesome, it is Freakin' Sweet!!! Beautiful guitar. Show us some pictures when it is comepleted.

That wood from Steve is top notch also. Also check out the wood from Mr. Dickey. I want to get a set or two of that also!

sorry... I don`t mean to step on your toes, as I agree you are the zootman! But I wanted to show this particular Sapele set off while we were on the subject.

I am going to build my first resonator guitar with this stuff, and I had Steve leave it 3/16ths thick for me.

also I might add that there is only one Stephen Couch and anyone who is in the Louisville Ky. area, needs to go see him play.
Stephen is also playing in a fantastic duet with Jazz guitarist extrodinaire Craig Wagner
The mixture of Craigs 7 string jazz guitar chording and Stephens melodic slide work make for some really beautifull instrumental music.
Stephen and Craig are going to be in the studio recording together in early june.

Matt I didn't think that at all. Like I said that is a beautiful set and I look foward to seeing pic's of the finished guitar. Who knows I may even get to sell you a set someday. I agree Steve at Colonial has some mighty fine wood.

It sure tempts me to try a total wicked Sapele guitar. It seems a shame to hide the wood on the back. I guess I'll wait to see how Bruce's EIR turns out. I'm still kicking myself for missing out.

when I look at this Sapele I could sware it all looks like its from the same batch, or even the same tree.

Not only is it possible, I know it all came from the same tree and originated from the same person......I could tell you more but it is classified info and then I'd have to...... . I do have quite a few sets also......I will be surprised if you see this wood at this figure once this tree runs out....at least not for a while so all I can say is get it while you can.

yeha I bout fell out my chair when I saw the prices too. It is cool stuff but
not $600 cool! I doubt they sell a bunch of it...

Years ago, LMI was selling similarly figured Honduran for $750/set, so $600 only seems unreasonable because other people are selling it for $150+. When those sources dry out, it will sell for $600 if builders can put a healthy premium on it. I bet they can.



Here is a guitar I build last summer, using a a set of quilted sapele that Gilmer currently sells for $90. I cut these from billets so my actual cost was less.

It's *not* as spectacular as Bob's wood (wish I had some!), particularly Brock's set - but we are now spoiled. It is still beautiful and turns people's heads. I'd still call it stunning wood.
